Remixing in HypeHype is the process of taking an existing game or template and modifying it to create something new. This allows creators to quickly build upon existing work instead of starting from scratch. Remixing is a key feature of HypeHype, enabling collaboration and iteration within the game creator community.
In essence, Remixing is about getting there faster and smarter, not cloning
The more you expand on the original parent game and the more unique your project becomes, your game will also be more favoured in our algorithm.
You might want to think of remixing much like using a template. We really encourage you to build on the parent game, the one you're remixing, and further transform it to bring new ideas and innovation.
One great example is the Remix from the original Parent Game Build a Boat to Risky Road.
Whilst retaining the popular building mechanics of the game that let's players create their own vehicle, a boat, the creators not only changed the theme to cars but also completely reworked the gameplay and environment to suit the racing aspect.
This creates an entirely new experience for players and also opens up many different possibilities for new gameplay elements and additional mechanics, skins and monetisation options.
Once you've found a game that you're bursting with ideas on and want to make your own, start by identifying themes, ideas and types of experiences that actually excite YOU!
Whilst establishing if there's an audience and market demand in general, it's so important that your next project is one you're really passionate about and can have fun building. That might sound a little simple, but it almost always shows in the final product and therefore transfers to players.
Always try to find a new angle or mechanic that can set your game apart.
Looking at top charts and noticing trends in themes and mechanics is absolutely a great strategy, but it's also worth digging slightly deeper and figuring what might be missing from the original game. Taking and improving an existing idea can be just as successful if executed properly.
There are a bunch of examples here, but with most you'll find significant differences that make them unique.
Be unique and give players a reason why they should play your remix over others, or even better, the original parent concept.
It's often a good idea to think about your Branding and Marketing first. This will be the games identity, the name of the game and what the thumbnail will look like. This really helps you visualise what are the games main features, the aesthetics and the overall vibe you're looking to create.
You don't have to get super specific here, but it's a really great exercise to understand if your idea is truly worth pursuing, coupled of course, with a decent amount of market research inside HypeHype and Beyond.
When games are remixed, the entire remix family benefits. Both the original game (Parent) and the remixed games (Children) can earn additional bonuses from engagement-based earnings and in-game purchase revenues.
All remix bonuses are paid on top of the game’s normal earnings, making remixing and collaborating even more rewarding!
10% bonus based on earnings from other family members is paid to the original game (parent) if there’s only one parent and child, and both games are Level 10+.
If the direct parent is under Level 10, the 10% bonus goes to the highest-level ancestor in the remix family (e.g., grandparent) that is Level 5+.
5% bonus based on the original parent game’s earnings is distributed among the best-performing members of the remix family that are Level 10+ and actively generating revenue.
If multiple children and grandchildren exist, the bonus is divided among the family members who meet these criteria.
Example
If your game earns 100,000 HypeCash and another creator remixes it into their own game that earns 80,000 HypeCash, and both games are Level 10 or higher, your game (parent) can earn an additional 10% bonus (8,000 HypeCash) from the remix, while the remixed game (child) can earn a 5% bonus (5,000 HypeCash) from your game’s earnings. Both games can benefit from extra payouts.
Gaming the system such as faking editor usage or other exploiting is forbidden behavior and can lead to removal of monetization from the account’s games, and/or removal of the account entirely.
