As you’ve hopefully seen in the Welcome and Introduction to this series, the game scope was pretty modest early on.
The game environment map was already created and designed to use it for a simple multiplayer Battle Royale project. This seemed quite reasonable and after running through the thought process outlined in Game Scope and Feature Creep video, it all seemed well within scope and time restraints.
There would be no elaborate player upgrading systems, no major game content aside from a few skins to be added and a light assortment of weapons to collect. Each session would essentially reset after each round and therefore it would be nothing more than a pick up and play simple arcade experience.
I think we did a decent evaluation at this stage and it’s important not to miss this step of your game building process.
As simple and somewhat silly as it may sound, Ask yourself, can you actually build this game? Have you seen other games do something like this and is it even possible?
Most things, even if we’re unsure of the specific details right away, can be achieved if we put our minds to it and learn as we go and that’s just fine.
We'll cover more on how the project evolved through iteration but please take this as an example of why having even a loose feature set in mind is critical for achieving the first release of your game and what you're heading for.
