The World Map is used to combine multiple games into one bigger game and share logic between them.
You can choose if the World Map can be used by players to navigate your game or hidden from view and only used to create the structure of how the games in your world map fit together.
To start a World Map you will first set a game to be the Sandbox. The game you use as a sandbox must already be saved to your profile. If you are starting from scratch save your game as a draft before attempting to convert it into a sandbox.
To convert a game to a sandbox open it in the Editor and navigate to Toolbar > Settings > World Map
Tap the World Map button and then select Create World Map
You will be prompted to give your sandbox a name. The name of the sandbox will also be the name of your game.
All logic that is in any type of Container in the sandbox game will be shared to all games in the World Map and editing the logic in the sandbox will also edit it for all the other games as well. Logic that is not in a container will only exist in the sandbox.
Once you have set a game as a sandbox the World Map button in Toolbar > Settings > World Map will open the World Map Editor.
By default it generates a “New Level” which is a remix of the sandbox game.
You can select any Level Icon to move it around or make edits.
With a level selected some options appear in the bottom toolbar
Edit | Edit the selected level. Note: This exits the World Map Editor. Save your changes first! |
Move Backward | Move the level back in the World Map layout |
Move Forward | Move the level forward in the World Map layout |
Remix the Game | Create a new level from the selected level |
Settings | Open level settings |
Here you can override World Map settings related to when to show a level to the player
Always | Always show the level on the World Map |
Use World Map Defaults | Use the World Map settings for when to show the level |
When Level Unlocked | Only show the level once it has been unlocked |
Only When Playing | When playing this level the World Map view will only display this level |
If your World Map Type is set to Graph you can create links between your levels to determine how the player can move between levels.
Each level can have multiple links allowing dynamic movement between levels.
Control which level the player moves to using the Game End Node.
A Game End Node needs to be properly configured in each level for the player to be able to move between levels regardless of the World Map Type.
At the bottom of the screen is the World Map Editor Toolbar.
Here you can access your games to add to the World Map, Save Progress Settings and Global World Map settings.
The Add Game button allows you to add new games to your world map from your profile. These must be unlisted or published games. Drafts cannot be added to a World Map.
To create a new level select the sandbox icon on the left side of the screen then tap Remix this Game in the bottom Toolbar.
You can also create new levels from any of the existing games in your World Map using the Remix this Game button.
Progress can be saved between games in a World Map.
You will first want to set up Saved Nodes in the Player Save Settings of the sandbox game found in Toolbar > Settings > Player Save Settings.
Any Nodes set to be saved in the sandbox game will then appear in the Player Save Settings for the World Map. Select the Nodes you would like to be accessible by all games in the World Map.
Nodes not set to be saved in this menu will only be saved to the sandbox game and not shared with other games in the World Map.
In the Settings menu you can adjust a few settings related to how your World Map will function.
Linear | Classic level progression. All levels must be completed in order |
Graph | Dynamic progression. Levels can be linked together in a variety of ways allowing the player |
Always | Levels are always visible |
When Level Unlocked | Levels are only visible once they have been unlocked |
Only When Playing | When playing a level the World Map view will only display the active level |
Links Visible | Does the player see the links between levels when viewing the World Map |
Level Snapping | Keep level icons snapped to the grid when moving them in the Editor |
A game can be set as the background for your world map allowing you to create a 3D world within which players can navigate your world map or just a pretty background.
Tap the Background
The background game should have a static camera and in most cases you will want this camera to be in a top down.
The World Map will exist in 3D space within the background game. Keep this in mind as objects in the world could obscure parts of your map. You may want this and can use it to create a more dynamic feeling World Map.
